Electrical contacts in the ignition switch can wear prematurely due to high electrical current passing through the switch. Worn out ignition contacts could cause the engine to stall without warning. Although the engine will restart in most cases, a vehicle that stalls while driving increases the risk of a crash.

1. Raise truck to a comfortable working height and support safely with jackstands under the frame. Place these stands ahead of the leafspring mount and at the rear of the frame to support it when the C notch is installed.
2. The C notch frame section will be installed first. Note that the front edge of the C notch is butted up to the round tube crossmember. Place the C notch against the framerail to scribe the outline for cutting the framerail. Be sure to “round” the corners of the cut to avoid any stress points This is the layout for cutting the frame for the C notch. Using a 1/2” drill to make the corners produces a rounded corner which is much less susceptible to a stress crack.

The AD37 is a small portable device that can read the pin codes from GM/Opel vehicles typically up to year 2000 models. The system consists of an immobiliser which is an integral part of the antenna/coil that is mounted around the ignition barrel.
SYSTEM IDENTIFICATION As a general rule the pin code can be read from all models up to year 2000 vehicles fitted with a white resistor on the immobiliser electronic circuit board. To identify the correct system, the immobiliser unit has to be removed and inspected (Refer to page 7).

The PCV valve is easily checked with the engine running at normal idle speed (warmed up). Gently pinch the hose shut, then release it; the valve should click. If there is no click, check for plugged hoses or ports. If these are open, the valve is faulty. With the engine OFF, remove the valve from the engine. Shake it, listening for the rattle of the plunger inside the valve. If no rattle is heard, the plunger is jammed (probably with oil sludge) and should be replaced. Never operate the engine without the PCV valve or with the hose blocked.
Don't blow directly into the valve in an effort to free the plunger; petroleum vapors and deposits within the valve are harmful.

After a number of years of engineering, Cadillac introduced air suspension on the 1957 Eldorado Brougham. For four years this option was offered, but since only 904 Broughams were built there were a very few equipped with air. In at least some years (if not all) from 1957 through 1960, Cadillac offered air suspension as a $215 option for both the Brougham and the non Brougham models. To do so, frames were built to accommodate both steel and air springs. Reports on these cars tell us that the system was quite remarkably smooth and comfortable (quite a complement considering Cadillac’s reputation for great ride) as long as they worked. The problem was that they were plagued with leaks. Leaks at fitting, and in controls, and anywhere else they could leak. They tended to freeze in the winter. You could lose air and drop the car without much warning. It was complicated and difficult to repair and maintain.

Squealing / Squeaking Noises From Area of Rack-And-Pinion When Steering in Both
Directions
If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of squealing or squeaking
noises when steering in both directions when the engine is warm, the cause may be due
to insufficient lubrication at the radial shaft sealing ring in the control head.
Note :The additive Lubrizol 6178 must only used up to a certain steering gear serial
number (see list). This restriction applies to models 203120912111220 without ABC. The
additive must no longer be used as of steering gear serial number stated below. If the
additive Lubrizol 6178 is poured into a steering gear after the steering gear serial
number stated below, damage to the steering gear is possible.

Each individual maintenance job is identified by a job number located at right or left heading of each page. The job numbers in the Maintenance Manual are identical with those on the Maintenance System Sheets and the Maintenance Booklets, so that the respective texts and data can be quickly located when performing maintenance work.
