Ford Duratec engines manufactured for the 1999 model year vehicle applications may have a greater tendency to leak. If you have ever experienced the joy of doing a plumbing project you learn very quickly about how the proper amount of heat in the right place will literally leach the solder into the joint to seal the copper pipe properly – or not. It becomes obvious where you failed to do so once you open the main water valve and you suddenly realize you have a leak.

Ford 4.2L Intake Manifold and Timing Cover Gaskets
Ford 4.2L truck and van engines manufactured from 1997 to 2001 have had problems with coolant leaking into the engine oil and into the cylinders. A failed intake manifold gasket or a failed timing cover gasket may cause the coolant to leak into the oil, but coolant leaking into the cylinders is almost always caused by failure of the intake manifold gasket. These problems have been widely reported in several service bulletins over the years.

Inspect the brake shoes for wear using a ruler or Vernier caliper. Compare measurements to the brake specifications chart. If the lining is thinner than specification or there is evidence of the lining being contaminated by brake fluid or oil, repair the leak and replace all brake shoe assemblies (a complete axle set). In addition to the shoes inspect all springs and brake shoe hardware for wear and replace as necessary.

1.) Rear Leaf Springs: We strongly recommend that you increase the number of leafs in the rear main springs before you begin the installation process. In most cases we have found that these additional leafs (Dodge - 4 leafs, Chev. - 3 leafs and Ford - 2 leafs), in addition to an in-cab controlled airbag system, will be adequate in most cases. The use of an airbag system has always proven to be far more effective than additional helper/overload springs.
