The rotary solenoid type IAC valve is located in front of the intake air chamber and intake air bypassing the throttle valve is directed to the IAC valve through a passage. In this way, the intake air volume bypassing the throttle valve is regulated, controlling the engine speed. The ECM operates only the IAC valve to perform idle–up and provide feedback for the target idling speed.

Some 2005 – 2007 model year Corolla and Matrix vehicles equipped with an automatic transaxle may exhibit a harsh shift condition and a M.I.L. “ON” with DTC P2716 stored. Improvements have been made to the Engine Control Module (ECM) (SAE term: Powertrain Control Module/PCM) to reduce the possibility of this condition occurring. Use the following procedure to repair the vehicle.

The intent of this bulletin is to provide technicians information regarding the proper installation of the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Module blower motor (with impeller) assembly.
The current available HVAC Module blower motor for the above listed vehicles can be identified by the three mounting holes (1). The original equipment blower motor had five mounting holes.
In order to avoid confusion and ensure a high level of customer satisfaction, when replacing an HVAC Module blower motor, refer to this bulletin for the appropriate procedure.

Solenoid Upgrade (optional)
The optional Solenoid Upgrade (#40060) is required if the nozzle is to be installed after the intake throttle plate (as shown), or the fluid reservoir is mounted higher then the nozzle. It is highly recommended for trunk-mount reservoirs.
Finger thread the two 1/8” NPT quick connect fittings into ports labeled IN and OUT on the solenoid. Tighten an additional half turn past finger tight.
