Before removing any parts, park the car on a secure, stable and level surface, loosen (but do not remove) the wheel lug nuts, jack the vehicle up and place the car on four stable jack stands or use a professional vehicle lift. We recommend having two people available for certain steps of the installation.
Front Install Instructions
1. Securely support both front corners of the car (relieving tension on the ARB).
2. Remove front wheels.
3. Remove Clip #1 using pliers. You do NOT need to reinsert this clip. Unfasten Nut #2, take out the hex bolt and pull both links upward and out.
Torque Spec: 40Nm.
4. Unscrew hex bolt (shock clevis) from suspension and control arm. Torque Spec: 90Nm with vehicle out or near ride height (use a transmission jack or floor jack)
5. From within the engine bay: Remove Cover to gain access to upper mount bolt.
6. Unscrew hex bolts #1 within engine bay. Take care not to damage the boot when remove bolts. Remove Front assembly from vehicle.
You will be able to do steps 7 – 11 with the suspension off of the car
7. Refer to Image at bottom of Page for Parts
8. Clamp Suspension Strut in Vice. Install spring tensioner VAG 1752/1 to relieve tension from the OEM front spring. Remove hex nut #1 from top of shaft.
9. Remove the following parts to be installed on the new damper:
#2 Shock Strut Mount
#3 Shaft Washer
#4 Upper Suspension Mount/Spring Plate
#6 Front Bump Rubber
10. Install in the following order the OEM Audi parts onto the new threaded damper with spring installed:
1. Audi #6 Front Bump Rubber
2. Audi #4 Upper Suspension Mount/Spring Plate
* be sure to properly locate the spring on the rubber mount
3. Audi #3 Shaft Washer
4. Audi #2 Shock Strut Mount
5. KONI provided shaft lock-nut
11. Using the same tools as for removal, torque the shock shaft locknut (KONI locknut) with the front assembled as listed in Step 10 and torque. Set the position of the Spring Seat on the threaded damper to 13” as measured from the center of the eye on the shock clevis to the spring seat where it meets the spring prior to installation.
12. Installation is the reverse of removal.
