BMW R1100RT Installation

2:45 AM by onesecond ·
The T tap has dielectric grease inside to protect the connection from moisture. Place the wire across the two U slots and close. The T tap accepts “plug in” blade connectors which allows the service technician the ability to disconnect the FUEL Plus when diagnosing a problem. An alternate method of connection is to strip the insulation, then solder a supplied wire to the bike wire, then cover it with tape. Self fusing tape will bond to itself creating a lasting water tight seal. Wire colors are stated as (solid color/ stripe). You may have to roll the wire over to see the stripe. If your bike requires different connections than what is stated here please contact Electronic Resources for assistance. We would also like to know if you solve a problem so we can share it with other riders.

Remove the following components to prepare for installation. There will be some differences between models and years.
Remove both seats.
Remove both left and right side fairing panels.
Remove the bolt at the right rear of the fuel tank (if needed) to run the display cable to the left side of the frame (inboard of the air intake tube) along the factory wiring harness.
Disconnect the negative battery cable (and any additional ground wires) at the battery.
Remove the air intake tube from the air box.

Install the wiring.
NOTE: The # indicates the connection to the unplugged 16 pin terminal strip. See the table.
The Junction Board will be mounted on top of the air box just in front of the air temperature sensor.

An alternate position is shown in PHOTO 1A. The clear sleeve for the board gets stiff when it is cold. Warming makes it more pliable. If it is difficult to get the air sensor connector back on then use the alternate position on the left. The wiring enters the upper left corner for either position.

Route the power wire (white, red, black jacketed) with the wires from the top of the air box down to the starter solenoid. Connect the red wire with the internal fuse device and the larger 3/8” ring terminal to the upper starter +12V stud at the solenoid. Connect the other end of the red wire to the unplugged terminal strip #6.
Route the black ground wire with the ΕΎ” ring terminal just to the rear of the starter. There is a tapped 6mm hole on the side of the transmission which can be used for the ground connection. Connect the stripped end of the black wire to #7.
Route the long black wire with the blade connector along the frame rail to the tail light housing. Connect this wire to the Grey/Black wire powering the tail/parking lamp circuit using a red T tap. The switched +12V from this circuit will allow you to power the Fuel+ with the ignition switch in the Run position or the Park position. Connect the stripped end of the white wire to #5.
An alternative connection point for this wire is Fuse 8 in the relay box using a fuse tap. This will allow you to power the Fuel+ with the ignition switch in the Acc or Run position. If you shorten this wire you will find yellow insulation under the jacket. It is white on the board end.
