3:34 AM by onesecond ·
This easy to install, high quality, POWERLET™ kit provides a convenient way to access the battery on BMW R1150GS motorcycles. The operator can supply power to the battery (i.e. battery charger), draw power from the battery (i.e. GPS), or monitor the state of charge on the battery using the Powerlet socket.

Detailed Instruction:
STEP #1– Remove the seat and air snorkel. Lift the gas tank exposing the battery.
STEP #2– Locate a suitable place on the left “beak” to drill a 18mm hole (11/16” hole saw recommended and is available on our site). Do not use a flat wood drill [A]. If the hole is too small for the socket open it with emery cloth or a file. W atch the clearance behind the panel. The required clearance behind the panel is approx 1.5”. Use a flat spot on the panel. Attach the socket to the panel; use a dab of Silicone on the socket and jam nut. Important:Do NOT use Loctite or over-tighten [A]; the plastic can crack. W asher on backside.
STEP #3 – Next remove the negative battery connection, followed by the positive battery connection. Stretch out the wiring harness. Grab the socket end of the harness and start routing the wiring harness; follow a stock wiring harness where possible, also follow the frame member [B]. Connect the red wire to the battery posts as follows:
RED W IRE = BATTERY POSITIVE
Tuck the fuse holder into the cavity ty-wrap to nearby wiring [C]. Connect the black ground wire to the bracket where the brown wire is attached [D].
STEP #4– Install the fuse in the fuse-holder. The center terminal is plus and the outer ring is negative (see dwg below). Apply either dielectric grease or Vaseline to the terminals. Connect the red wire to the POSITIVE terminal and the black wire to the NEGATIVE terminal. Install the fuse. Use a voltmeter to check if the polarity is correct.
STEP #5– Apply the remaining ty-wrap to the wiring harness and the existing wiring harness [B]. Do NOT allow the harness to directly contact the motor or exhaust.
STEP #6– Replace the snorkel and the seat. Enjoy!
