Borla Performance Cat-Back™ Exhaust System (Part number 140169) has been designed for the 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata equipped with a 2.0L 4 cylinder engine and a manual transmission.
Note: It is our recommendation that you use a hoist or hydraulic lift to facilitate the installation of your new Borla Performance Cat-Back ™ Exhaust System.
Taking all under car safety precautions, lift the vehicle using a hoist or hydraulic lift. Once this has been done, you may begin the removal of your old exhaust system from your vehicle.

The Mazda Miata is a very well balanced car and a good value on a per-smile basis, but the one thing that has bothered me since I bought the car is the fake oil pressure gauge. In a brilliant move which must save $0.50 per car, Mazda replaced the original Miata's oil pressure sender which was a real analog gauge with a nice digital idiot light type unit. To keep the gauge from looking odd with the needle pinned, they install the gauge needle so that it sits in the normal range when there is any amount of oil pressure in the engine. So there is two states to the gauge, "normal" where you have pressure, and "dead" where the gauge and your engine are both "dead". As has been stated elsewhere, this is the worst of all possible solutions. An idiot light would most likely catch your eye rather quickly. But this gauge which never moves is easily forgotten and when the needle does move, chances are it won't be noticed.

The biggest change for the Miata since its 1989 inception came in mid-2004 with the introduction of the 178-hp, turbocharged Mazdaspeed MX-5. Speed now joins lively handling as part of the Miata's timeless appeal. The 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine makes peak horsepower at 6000 rpm, and 166 lb-ft of torque at 4500 rpm. That's 25 percent more horsepower and 33 percent more torque than the naturally aspirated Miata, which remains unchanged for 2005. A five-speed manual transmission is standard on base and LS Miatas, with an automatic available on both.

Some vehicles (mazda rx-8) may experience difficulty starting (cranks no start). This may occur after driving the vehicle a
short distance without engine reaching normal operating temperature. Examples: starting a vehicle and moving
it to wash it, engine stall due to mis-application of clutch then restart. This commonly occurs at port facilities or
dealer lots where vehicles are frequently started cold, moved for short distances and then turned off. This concern may also occur due to low cranking RPM during engine starting.
