2002 Mazda MPV LX Key Interlock Inspection

2002 ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT' 'Steering Column Switches - MPV
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON position.
2. Shift the selector lever to R position.
3. Verify that the ignition key cannot be turned to LOCK position.
4. Shift the selector lever to P position.
5. Verify that the ignition key can be turned to LOCK position.
If a malfunction is found, perform the instrument cluster input/output check mode. See INPUT/OUTPUT CHECK MODE
KEY INTERLOCK SOLENOID INSPECTION CONTINUITY INSPECTION
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the screws, then remove the column cover.
3. Disconnect the key interlock solenoid connector.
4. Inspect for continuity between terminals A and B. If there is no continuity, replace the key cylinder.
5. Connect the key interlock solenoid connector.
6. Install the column cover.
7. Connect the negative battery cable.
KEY INTERLOCK RESISTOR INSPECTION RESISTANCE INSPECTION
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Disconnect the key interlock resistor connector.
3. Inspect for resistance between terminals A and B.
If not correct, replace the key interlock resistor. See KEY INTERLOCK RESISTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.
