1. Vehicle Protection. (a) Set parking brake. STOP (b) Remove the negative battery cable. (Fig. 1-1) (1) Protect the fender before starting. STOP CAUTION: Do not touch the positive terminal with any tool when removing cable.
2. Vehicle Disassembly. (a) Using protective blankets, cover front seat, interior of vehicle and center console forward of ahifter. (b) Remove center instrument panel register assembly. (1) Apply protective tape to the areas shown in the illustration. (Fig. 2-1) (2) Using a molding remover, disengage the two (2) claws and five (5) clips, and then remove the center instrument panel register assembly. (Fig. 2-1) (c) Remove center instrument cluster finish panel assembly (w/o Smart Key System). (1) Apply protective tape to the areas shown in the illustration. (Fig. 2-2) (2) Using a moulding remover, disengage the ten (10) claws and eight (8) clips starting from the upper part of the center instrument cluster finish panel assembly. NOTE: Do not pull on the small storage compartment lid. Doing so may cause damage. (3) Disconnect each connector and remove the center instrument cluster finish panel assembly. (d) Remove heater control and accessory assembly. (1) Disengage the four (4) clips and remove the heater control and accessory assembly. (Fig. 2-3) (2) Disconnect the connector. (e) Remove radio receiver assembly with bracket. (1) Remove the four (4) bolts. (Fig. 2-4) (2) Pull the radio receiver assembly with bracket toward the rear of the vehicle and disengage the four (4) clips. (Fig. 2-5) (3) Disconnect each connector and remove the radio receiver assembly with bracket.
