REMOVAL & INSTALLATION 3.0L Engine 1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Raise and safely support the vehicle. 2. Drain the engine oil and remove the starter motor. 3. Remove the front and rear transaxle-to-engine braces. 4. Disconnect the low oil level sensor connector from the dash panel side of the oil pan. 5. Remove the exhaust inlet pipe from the manifolds and pull it down out of the way. 6. Drain the cooling system and remove the water pump. 7. Remove the water pump bracket and idler pulley tensioner. 8. Remove the mounting bolts and nut from the front end of the right crossmember. 9. Loosen, but do not remove the bolts and nut from the rear end of the right crossmember.
WARNING Allow the crossmember to drop as low as possible to allow the removal of the oil pan. If any attempt is made to remove the oil pan without lowering the crossmember first, damage to the baffle may occur. The oil pan must be pulled straight down without turning or prying it out.
1. Remove the oil pan mounting bolts and the oil pan.
To install: 1. Apply a 5 in. (5mm) bead of silicone sealer to the junction of the rear main bearing cap and the cylinder block and the junction of the front cover assembly and the cylinder block. 2. Position the oil pan gasket on the engine block and secure with gasket adhesive. 3. Place the oil pan on the cylinder block and tighten the mounting bolts to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm). 4. Lift the right crossmember into place and tighten all the nuts and bolts. 5. Install the water pump mounting bracket and the idler pulley tensioner. 6. Install the water pump and the exhaust inlet pipe. 7. Connect the oil level sensor and install the transaxle-to-engine braces. 8. Install the starter motor. 9. Lower the vehicle. Refill the crankcase and the cooling system. 10. Connect the negative battery cable. Run the engine and check for leaks.
