1992-2001 Ford Escort/ZX2 Short Throw Shifter Installation

This B&M Short Throw Shifter has been designed to work on most 1992 - 2001 Ford Escort/ZX2, 1992-1999 Mazda MX- 3/30X, 1992-1994 Mazda 323, and 1992-2002 Mazda Protegé/MP3/5 models. It has been engineered to greatly reduce shift throw and improve shifter feel. Check the parts and tools lists at the beginning of these instructions for the supplied parts and the tools required to install your B&M Short Throw Shifter. Installation of the B&M Short Throw Shifter can be accomplished by anyone with minimal mechanical experience.
This B&M Short Throw Shifter can be installed in less than an hour by carefully following the instructions. Read all instructions first to familiarize yourself with the parts, tools, and procedures. This kit contains all the parts necessary to install the shifter.
Diassembly
STEP 1. Unscrew knob.
STEP 2. Raise and support vehicle. TOOLS: Floor Jack D , Jack Stands x 4 E
STEP 3. Unscrew heat shield a (some vehicles). TOOLS: Socket Drive F , Extension G , Socket (10mm) H
STEP 4. Remove change rod bolt, nut, and spring washer. TOOLS: Socket Drive F , Socket (12mm) H , Wrench (12mm) I
STEP 5. Remove lower bushings b .
STEP 6. Unsnap boot plate c . Note: '01 Protegé shown (other vehicles may vary)
STEP 7. Remove emergency brake cover d . Note: '01 Protegé shown (other vehicles may vary)
STEP 8. Remove two(2) center screws e . TOOL: Screwdriver (Phillips) J Note: '01 Protegé shown (some vehicles may vary)
