The PA11-VW6 interface connects the iPod directly to VW audio system and its on-board software translates commands from either your VW CD Changer controls into commands that the iPod understands. This interface enables the iPod to take place of a VW remotely mounted CD Changer and provides the following benefits:
Direct connection of the iPod to VW vehicle audio system for optimum sound quality
Control iPod playback with CD Changer buttons on car radio
Direct access and control of up to 5 favorite playlist and/or direct control of the iPod using the iPod buttons.
Charge the iPod internal battery --- and charging stops automatically at one hour after iPod is paused.
Auxiliary audio input [connect additional audio device (SAT radio, DVD Player, Game system etc) and listed to it on the factory system)
Plug-n-play: includes installation cable, mounting screws and owner’s manual.
Retains factory SAT Radio.
COMPATIBILITY
The PA11-VW interface is compatible with iPod (G3, G4, G5) iPod Mini, Nano, Photo, Video, iPhone, Classic, Touch models featuring a dock connector. Please visit www.apple.com/iPod and update the firmware on your iPod.
Note: The iPod Nano 3rd Generation, Touch, classic, touch, and iPhone are not fully compatible in Hybrid mode. (See below). The screen on these iPods will be locked and OK TO DISCONNECT will be displayed. Playlist on iPod can be accessed through the DISC button on the radio, but user can not operate the keys on the iPod when DIP switch #2 is set to “ON”. These iPod’s are fully compatible in Direct Mode.
Important: Display of artist, song title information, track search and artist, song title, album or genre is not displayed on the Audi/VW radio. Radio will show Track and disc number. (CD Changer display mode)
HYBRID MODE, DIRECT MODE AND AUX. OPTION
The PA11-FVW provides two ways to control your iPod through the car radio, namely Hybrid Mode and Direct Mode.
1. DIRECT MODE: Search and select music on the iPod directly just as you would in portable use. Music will playback through your car stereo. You may also use the track up/down, fast forward and reverse buttons on your radio or steering wheel to control music playback. All control functions on the iPod will still be available for direct control using the iPod buttons. Please see section 4 of this manual for additional information.
2. HYBRID MODE: Operate and control the iPod as if it was a CD Changer. This mode allows you to access up to five playlist on the iPod. The instructions for playlist creation and playback controls are available later on in this manual. Additionally, while in Hybrid Mode, the keypads and the display on the iPod function as if it was in Direct Mode or in portable use.
If the playback of a Playlist is manually interrupted by using the iPod’s key pad, and a song or music in a new category is played, the interface module memorizes the last played track number of the new category. “New category” means file, or folder, or playlist, or artist etc. which is different from the Playlist being played. When you return to the same DISC on the radio the interface module will use the “memorized” track number (note: just the track number, not the last played song in the new category) to playback the Playlist related to this DISC.
