Audi/VW B5 1.8T stėrn Transmission Mount Installation

9:08 PM by onesecond ·
This mount will provide a great reduction in transmission movement making shifting much more secure. With less transmission movement you’ll have less drivetrain slop as well, resulting in more power transmitted to the wheels. Upgraded engine mounts are recommended to be used in conjunction. Below are our installation guidelines for this item. Please review them carefully before attempting to install this product.

Step 1
Raise the front of the car and secure it with jack stands. Never work under a car supported only by a hydraulic floor jack. Check your owner’s manual for proper placement of floor jacks and jack stands.
Step 2
Identify the transmission mount. It is located just rear of the driver side wheel adjacent to the transmission. It is shown in the Photo 1 below in the highlighted area circled in red
Step 3
Using a 15mm socket, remove the bottom nut of the mount.
Step 4
Place your floor jack underneath the transmission to carefully support the weight. Lift the transmission such that the mount raises no more than 1/8” from the subframe.
Step 5
Using an 8mm hex remove the remaining bolt from the side of the mount. You can then carefully remove the mount as shown in Photo 3.
Step 6
Insert the new mount and partially secure the lower mounting nut to hold it in place. Insert the new mounting bolt through the transmission bracket and through the stėrn transmission mount and secure with the new washer and nut. Be sure to properly orient the inner large diameter washer. The keyhole must be positioned straight up at the 12 o’clock position.
Step 7
Using a 17mm socket and wrench tighten the new bolt to 35-40ft-lbs.
Step 8
Lower the floor jack, and tighten the bottom mounting nut to 40-45ft-lbs. Carefully lower the vehicle from the jack stands.
