1996-2000 Audi A4 Short Throw Shifter Installation Instructions

This B&M Short Throw Shifter has been designed to work on most 1996-2000 Audi A4, 2000 Audi S4, 2000 Audi A6, and 1996-2000 Volkswagen Passat models. It has been engineered to greatly reduce shift throw and improve shifter feel. Check the parts and tools lists at the beginning of these instructions for the supplied parts and the tools required to install your B&M Short Throw Shifter. Installation of the B&M Short Throw Shifter can be accomplished by anyone with minimal mechanical experience.

STEP 1. Unscrew knob a.
STEP 3. Remove rubber cover c. (for some vehicles)
STEP 2. Carefully unsnap leather boot b.
STEP 4. Carefully unsnap and remove console plate d. Some vehicles require center console removal
STEP 5. Remove insulation foam e. (for some vehicles)
STEP 6. Remove shifter cover nuts f.
TOOLS: Socket(10 & 13mm) AA , Drive BB , and Extension CC
STEP 7. Remove shifter cover g
STEP 8. Remove four (4) nuts h .
TOOL: Socket(10mm) AA , Drive BB & Extension CC
STEP 9. Remove change rod bolt i and plate j .
TOOL: Hex Wrench (6mm) DD
STEP 10. Remove support rod bolt k .
TOOL: Hex Wrench (6mm) DD
STEP 11. Push shift mechanism down and forward.
STEP 12. Remove four(4) rail screws m .
TOOL: Hex Wrench (5mm) DD or TORX Wrench (T-20) EE shown
STEP 13. Remove shift mechanism.
STEP 14. Pull out the two(2) rails n.
STEP 15. Push out rubber bushings p.
STEP 16. Identify shift pattern then proceed to indicated step.
