Step 1 - Unpack QuickLIFT system and verify contents. Remove all items from the packing tube. The rear axle bearings that are used on a 1955 to 1964 are a “press- on” style ball bearing. The bearing supports the axle in the rear end housing and also serves as the seal and axle retainer. An O-ring around the outside of the bearing seals to the rear end housing, while a lip seal is located on the outside face of the bearing that keeps rear end lube inside the housing. When an axle bearing starts to leak (usually because the bearing cage is disintegrating) the rear end lube will ruin the rear brake shoes. If the bearing becomes loose, it will start to roar and possibly ruin the axle and/or rear end housing. In this article we will show the proper way to remove and install new rear axle bearings.

Removal
1. Loosen the water pump pulley set bolts.
2. Remove the drive belt adjusting bolt, and remove the drive belt.
3. Remove the water pump pulley from the water pump.
4. Remove the crankshaft pulley set bolt.
5. Using SST (09213-31021), remove the crankshaft pulley.
6. Remove the timing chain cover bolts and nuts as shown in the figure.

U-Cut-To-Fit Speedometer Cable Kit Installation
Step 1: Install outer housing to speedometer and route housing to transmission, making sure to keep away from exhaust pipes.
Step 2: Hold housing up to transmission to determine length and mark a cut line. Remove housing from vehicle and cut housing at the cut line.
Step 3: After cutting housing, install end of housing into GM or Chrysler trans end fitting. Figure 1 Slide housing nut up and tighten until housing is locked into fitting.
Note: Do Not over tighten nut as it will result in fitting failure.
