2008 Ford Taurus X Windshield Installation

Preparation
1. Always wear eye and hand protection when working with glass. Make sure you have the right glass and moldings and the urethane systems you are about to use are current. Windshield part number is DW1691.
2. Cover the front seats, floorboards, dash and steering wheel with a clean drop cloth or disposable plastic covers.
3. Drape a fender cover over the fender and tape up any vulnerable areas on the vehicle to protect against possible damage. Tape up the defroster vents to prevent debris from falling into the openings.
4. Use a wood- or plastic-handled tool to tap the rearview mirror up and off the pad.
5. Ford offers a remote-start option for this vehicle. The antenna for this feature is mounted directly below the mirror pad and held in place with double-faced tape. Be prepared to replace the tape mounting when you remove the antenna.
6. Remove the windshield-wiper nut covers.
7. Remove the windshield-wiper nuts using a 15-millimeter wrench or socket. Move the wiper arm in an up-and-down motion to break it loose from the post, or use a wiper puller.
Note: Wipers can sometimes be hard to remove. Use a wiper puller to avoid stressing the post.
8. Removing the cowl panel will be challenging. First, release the
11 reverse-bite clips along the panel’s leading edge by pushing back on the top while lifting from the bottom.
9. Use your hands or a door-pad tool to release the under-side cowl retainers. Remove the cowl panel.
10. Set the cowl panel in a safe place.
11. The new glass part comes with top and side moldings. If you salvage the glass, you might need to replace the moldings as they are susceptible to damage during glass removal. Note: Before beginning windshield removal, verify the windshield is the correct one and the urethanes and primers you are about to use are current. Never use outdated products as this could jeopardize the structural integrity of the vehicle and the safety of its passengers.
