Tools Required for OBE Installation in Vehicle

STEP 1: Remove the speedometer dash trim and instrument cluster.
STEP 2: Wipe the area where the antenna will be installed with the alcohol wipe provided in the installation kit.
STEP 3: Wipe the back of the antenna with the alcohol wipe (non-text side). The top side of the antenna reads “TX/RX Side” for the rectangular antenna. Some installation kits will have a round antenna. The round antenna also has a logo on the top side. The text/logo side of the antenna should be installed in the “up” position and never taped against the vehicle.

2008 Ford Taurus LTD AWD

There are several changes for this car, this year. First, it loses the Five Hundred name and is now called Taurus. Next, a 3.5L engine supplants the 3.0L V6 and the continuously variable (CVT) transmission has been retired. Finally, there is a refreshed exterior and improvements to the interior and safety equipment. The drive wheels are up front, but an optional on-demand, four-wheel-drive system is available for both trim versions, SEL and Limited.

E85 Ethanol
E85: A blend of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. E85 must only be used in flexible fuel vehicles.
Ethanol: Ethanol is a high-octane, domestic and renewable alcohol fuel produced primarily from plant sugars. It is blended with gasoline to make a cleaner burning, high performance vehicle fuel.

The electrical power to the air suspension system must be shut off prior to hoisting, jacking or towing of an air suspension vehicle. This can be accomplished by turning off the air suspension switch located in the rear jack storage area Failure to do so may result in unexpected inflation or deflation of the air springs which may result in shifting of the vehicle during these operations. WARNING: The low pressure gas shock absorbers are charged with nitrogen gas 930 kPa (135 psi). Do not attempt to open, puncture, or apply heat to the shock absorbers.

Airbag Safety in the Police-Fire and EMS Vehicle

In August of 2002, National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA), Special Crash Investigation Team members announced a nationwide "Aftermarket Communications Equipment Installation" bulletin regarding the safety installation of police type communications equipment installed in the police vehicle. NHTSA SCI Team learned of several cases of officers being injures when equipment (laptop computers) were incorrectly mounted in front of the airbags from cases Dave Long, The Airbag Detective, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Airbags save lives, Dave studies how they are misused and misunderstood, and has tracked several injury cases and mismounts in police vehicles.

Ford EGR System - Know the system and you can fix it

If you know how something works... you can fix it. No matter what system you deal with on a car or truck, it can be fixed if you have the right knowledge and information. Some technicians do not have the luxury of factory service manuals for every vehicle that rolls into the shop. A computer system with technical information like AllData or Mitchell on Demand may not be available either. In these cases it is even more important for the technician to understand the effected system. In other cases, if a trouble tree is available, it might not explain what is being checked in each step and may confuse the technician even further. Besides, could technical information ever contain typographical errors?

The Ford-Firestone Case

In July 1998, Sam Boyden from State Farm Insurance received a call from a claims adjuster inquiring about Firestone tread separation. Sam began to research this issue and he found that there were 20 more such cases going back to 1992. All 21 cases involved Firestone ATX tires and 14 of them involved the Ford Explorer. He then sent an unsolicited e-mail to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) describing the 21 Firestone cases. In return, The NHTSA thanked him but did not follow up on the complaint. Sam Boyden proceeded to track the problem and during 1999 noticed another 30 such cases. He continued passing on the information to the NHTSA.
